Until recently, the best airport lounges were located in non-U.S. airports. Typical U.S. lounges hadn’t latched on to the new and modern concept of high end catering and customer service that international airlines had already figured out. But today, U.S. options are growing in number and quality, with lounges matching counterparts overseas with all the treatments that elite travelers expect. Here is our list of the top three airport lounges in the U.S.:
American Express Centurion Lounge, San Francisco, CA
With a menu created by a Michelin-starred chef and wines curated from Napa Valley, the American Express Centurion Lounge in San Francisco (one among many at U.S. airports) has an exceptional level of food and drink for guests. On-site spa treatments are also available, as are shower suites, free WiFi, and workspaces.
Virgin Atlantic JFK Clubhouse, New York, NY
Hip, fun and playful, the Virgin Atlantic JFK Clubhouse is cutting-edge and modern. If you have time, you can relax, shoot a game of pool, or even enjoy complimentary spa treatments at the onsite Bumble & Bumble salon. Restrictions apply as to who can enjoy the clubhouse (some flyers might have to pay for the privilege), but it’s worth it if you have a long layover and need a place to hang out that feels like someplace you might actually want to.
Star Alliance Lounge LAX, Los Angeles, CA
The impressive Star Alliance Lounge at LAX is a gorgeous addition to the U.S. airport lounge scene. The most lovely aspect is the outdoor terrace with a waterfall that allows you to breathe some fresh air in between flights. Free WiFi, enjoyable drinks and cuisine, and plenty of space to work or meet make the Star Alliance Lounge very special.
If you’re not flying these airlines, their partners or are a member of American Express, don’t fear. You can utilize Lounge Buddy to find airport lounges at any number of U.S. airports. They might not be as over the top as these three, but, they will certainly give you a respite from the hectic terminals and long layovers.
